Embroidery RSN Certificate Silk Shading6 July 2019

My RSN Certificate Silk Shading has been assessed

Yesterday evening I received the results of my RSN Certificate Silk Shading project: I got 85%!!! I am really happy with this mark, especially since I have found this technique the most difficult so far. I am also really happy that I managed to get this mark without frogging and restitching a large number of…

RSN Certificate Silk Shading

In October 2018 I started the third module of the Royal School of Needlework Certificate course. After previously having completed the Jacobean Crewelwork and Canvaswork module, it was now time to try my hand at Silk Shading. It was really difficult to pick a suitable photograph of a flower. The RSN brief sets many do’s…

Wren Etui

I spotted Jenny Adin Christie‘s wren for the first time when Catherine of Hillview Embroidery and I attended a workshop by Jenny at Au ver Γ  Soie in Paris during their Nuit de la Broderie in February 2018. The odd thing was that at first I never realised that it was embroidered when I saw…

Year 1

Today is the 31st of December. Besides being the last day of 2017 it is also the last day of the first year of the Stitching Sheep and what a year it has been! I am so glad I have taken the plunge last year to launch the Stitching Sheep’s blog and social media accounts.…

Superb Fairy Wrens

Feeling rather brave but a bit mad at the same time having picked my next project. Since I have no WIPs lying around I could pick any of the kits in my stash. I am going to attempt a Trish Burr miniature needle painting design! I picked up this kit at Create in Stitch when…

Finishing my Silk Shading project

It has already been a month since I attended an Introductory Silk Shading day class at the Royal School of Needlework with tutor Helen Richman. With finishing my Hygge shawl and my gold work pheasant I have only just got back to finishing the day class project. Besides really liking the design – an English…

Silk Shading ‘English Rose’

Just arrived back from my day class at the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) at Hampton Court Palace and I have had a fabulous day. Last October I did a day class on Whitework with Lizzy Pye which I enjoyed so much I signed up for some more courses, the first of which was today.…

Stitched down the fabric for the back hill today and the felt padding for the front hill. Hopefully the fabric I ordered for it will arrive tomorrow so I can stitch that down as well. If not, I can practice my finger and hand making. Next online C&D class booked for a week on Tuesday as got lots of questions about making my figures. Can’t wait to start stitching those and see how they will turn out! #rsndiploma
Some more beautiful thread-goodness arrived today, this time from @olivertwistsfibres 😍😍😍 So much variety and perfect colours for my project! #rsndiploma
Look at this wonderful selection of @artfiberendoky threads, which I bought from @masakonewtonembroidery 😍😍😍 I got three packs of textured threads as well as some chenille and linen threads. These are just perfect for my stumpwork project. I have actually visited the Art Fiber Endo shop in Kyoto when we were in Japan two years ago. I just wish I had anticipated the projects I would be making and all the threads I could use for it. So glad Masako has imported them to Europe, but when I go back to Japan, I will definitely pay them another visit. #rsndiploma
I have cut some felt templates of my figures so I could get a better feel of their dimensions and so I can work out a padding plan.
Made a start with my RSN diploma stumpwork project! So happy I finally got my stitching mojo back to make a proper start on it.
@borduurblad, a dutch embroidery magazine, has shared a picture of my @royalneedlework Certificate and Diploma pieces! 😊
My two London cushions side by side (kits by @hannahbassneedlepoint) 😍😍😍 #needlepoint
Finished my London Metro needlepoint cushion (kit by @hannahbassneedlepoint) 😍😍😍 So happy I wrote a how-to on my blog when I made the London light cushion two years ago so I could make it exactly the same. The linen fabric (bright red) I used to make the piping and the linen fabric (duck egg blue) for the back I got from Hannah too and they are a perfect match for the design. #needlepoint
The outside of my haberdashery cabinet is finished. So happy with how it looks. A little bit of TLC can do so much, without losing the vintage look. The final picture shows the before (left) and after (right) pictures. #haberdasherycabinet
