Wren Etui

I spotted Jenny Adin Christie‘s wren for the first time when Catherine of Hillview Embroidery and I attended a workshop by Jenny at Au ver à Soie in Paris during their Nuit de la Broderie in February 2018. The odd thing was that at first I never realised that it was embroidered when I saw…

Helen Richman’s ‘Stumpwork Embroidery’

My boyfriend and I took a day trip to Antwerp yesterday. Whenever I am in Antwerp, I always like to pop into the International Magazine Store. It stocks over 10.000 magazines in various languages and they have a great range of craft magazines on the shelf. They even stock Inspirations Magazine! They also stock a…

‘My’ Secret Garden

It has been nearly a month since I have done the ‘Secret Garden’ day class at the Royal School of Needlework. The ‘Secret Garden’ is a design featuring ribbonwork and stumpwork embroidery techniques and has been designed and was taught by Helen Richman of The Bluebird Embroidery Company. The design actually features in her forthcoming…

Back at Hampton Court

The reason for starting the Stitching Sheep is because I love needlecraft and embroidery in particular and I wanted to share it with more people than just my immediate family and friends. The problem, however, with enjoying something so much, is that you want to keep doing it and as a result don’t give yourself…

No I haven’t reposted my picture from Sunday...Robin’s arm kept annoying me...and redid it twice. I think I am happy now. I made the arm shorter as the shoulder was far too high, I changed his shirt to reduce bulk and give him less bodybuilder-type arms, and my tutor also suggested to colour his arms a bit more to make them a bit more manly. Let’s what I think of this in a few days time....#rsndiploma
Clothing on a very different scale today. Made a new needlelace sleeve for Robin’s tunic which resembles the much looser fit of the original outfit. I have attached the main body of the tunic, the arm and the tunic sleeve. Will need to add some more stitches to pull the arm back a bit more as I feel it stands out a bit much but that might be because he is missing his head and therefore the body proportions seem a bit off. I will wait and see what looks best when I have made that. #rsndiploma
My embroidery endeavours really have opened my eyes for the quality of other crafts and the skills required. This is also made me look for and appreciate beautiful hand-made clothes from sustainable materials.
Been working on something of a slightly larger scale than my stumpwork embroidery for most of the week.
One tunic! So happy with how it looks on my figure. As you can see I have only pinned it down so it looks a bit bulkier than when properly attached. So happy it fits and isn’t too tight. It will have his hood over the top as well as a leather belt which will create even more natural creases. Will make his arm (as I just noticed it had moved for the picture making it look like he has two elbows 🙃) and neck next so I can attach the tunic for real. #rsndiploma
Loving my new set-up for when I am stitching on smaller frames. I used to use seat frames but as I am quite tall I never found them very comfortable to stitch with, especially not for longer periods of time.
Robin has a pair trousers! Fabric is a pre-washed linen and I have used @artfiberendoky linen thread on the side for the lacing. Starting Robin’s needle lace tunic so I can dip in and out of it as it is to fiddly to keep doing for hours at a time. In the mean time I can continue with Sir Guy. #rsndiploma
Managed to get quite a bit done on my RSN diploma stumpwork project today. The way you have to put stumpwork figures together (from the back to the front) they both look rather odd at the moment. Sir Guy only has one leg, as I need to make and attach his left trouser leg before I attach the rest of the padding. Robin is all padded out but doesn’t have any clothes yet, a single hand and arm in shirt sleeves and an arrow basket on his back. Clothes making next I think.... #rsndiploma
More fabric dyeing today. I bought some very fine white lawn cotton for the faces, necks and Robin’s bare arm, which I had to dye in a flesh colour.
