Finishing my RSN Certificate Crewelwork

As I mentioned in my previous post I was quite nervous about going back to the RSN as I completed most of my project at home and I didn’t really know whether the tutors would be happy with my progress. That is also why I booked my final three days spread out over the week…

Progress on my RSN Certificate Crewelwork

When I finished the first five classes of my RSN certificate Jacobean Crewelwork module, I thought I would take forever until my next (and final) three classes in February but now those classes are only 2 weeks away! Fortunately, I can report that almost all areas are stitched and I just have to think about…

A new year!

Happy New Year everyone! Following on from yesterday’s post looking back at the highlights of the Stitching Sheep’s first year, I thought it would be fitting to celebrate it’s anniversary today and look ahead at the things 2018 will hopefully have in store for the Stitching Sheep. I have actually started writing this post enjoying…

Year 1

Today is the 31st of December. Besides being the last day of 2017 it is also the last day of the first year of the Stitching Sheep and what a year it has been! I am so glad I have taken the plunge last year to launch the Stitching Sheep’s blog and social media accounts.…

My Devere Yarns Advent Calendar

This year was the first year I had bought the Devere Yarns Advent Calendar. I had come across Devere Yarns and the calendar on Jen Goodwin’s Instagram page and quickly found that two of my other stitching-friends had got one too! Devere Yarns sell various options of their Calendar, all silk threads, all cotton threads, all…

Quiet? Not quite…

You will have noticed that the Stitching Sheep’s blog has been rather quiet for the last two weeks. It is not because I have not been doing anything craft-related as my frequent Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posts will testify, but they are rather a mixed bag of things so this will be kind of a…

Helen Richman’s ‘Stumpwork Embroidery’

My boyfriend and I took a day trip to Antwerp yesterday. Whenever I am in Antwerp, I always like to pop into the International Magazine Store. It stocks over 10.000 magazines in various languages and they have a great range of craft magazines on the shelf. They even stock Inspirations Magazine! They also stock a…

Happy to be stitching again

For the past few weeks, I have not really felt in a stitching mood. The week at the RSN had been really intense and I was quite scared to start stitching on my own. Moreover, I had a job-change on my mind; leaving a company I had worked in for 8 years and joining one…

How to make a thread catcher

When I did my first day-class at the Royal School of Needlework last year I spotted the cute little purple thread catchers with the RSN logo on sitting on the poles of the trestles in the certificate & diploma classroom. At the time I thought it was a shame that they didn’t sell those in…

How to make a pair of trestles for your embroidery frame

For the certificate and diploma courses at the Royal School of Needlework, you are required to use a slate frame. The easiest way to embroider using a slate frame is to rest it on a pair of trestles. It was the first time I actually worked like that having previously only used seat frames or…

A day filled with little jobs today. One of the things I did was this.
As you might have seen on my stories I was gifted a large stash of haberdashery by Monique of @vintagemeesters.
Although I love displaying plants in my Ludvik Volák room divider, not all plants love to be in it. It is right in the middle of our living room and therefore isn’t the brightest spot in the room.
Our ‘Easter-tree’ is up!
Week 4 of the @haakplein Nostalgia 2.0 CAL done! After last week’s terrible video showing of the full length of the afghan I am crocheting, this week a slightly more pleasing picture showing off all nine different patterns. It is so difficult the make nice pictures of a craft project of this size….
I worked on my RSN diploma advanced goldwork project today and I finished the second petal of the rose. It involved a lot of couching and plunging.
Finished the first two columns of the @haakplein Nostalgia 2.0 CAL. Lagging slightly behind the CAL timescale but very much enjoying it. Love how it is looking already. Unfortunately too oddly shaped at the moment for a nice photograph so a video has to do.
Back home, and as I had another day off before going back to work, I had a chance to sort out my Observer’s book collection, add my purchases, and put them all together on the shelves.
My holiday was really perfectly timed as there was another antiques fair on today I could visit!
